Arons & Gelauff Architects from Amsterdam are responsible for the design of the new campus building in Enschede, The Netherlands.
One side of the nine story building features a 30 meter high climbing wall.
The climbing wall was an integral part of the building’s design from the first design sketches, whereby the wall and the apartments helped shape each other.
The result is a sculptural building with 87 apartments and over 2500 hand and foot grips.
The building doesn’t only feature a climbing wall, a part of it can also be used as a bouldering wall.
Arons & Gelauff: “As a climber in the Netherlands, one anyway has to resort to artificially created training spots, so why not combine architecture and climbing wall?”
Now The Netherlands have another 30+ meter high artificial climbing wall, next to the impressive Bjoeks tower in Groningen and the Matterhorn a.k.a. Monte Cervino replica in Bergschenhoek.

So brilliant. I would love living in that building.
places and facilities that support the sport climbing walls!
